WELCA

THE QUESTION: WHAT IS WELCA?  WELCA is an acronym for the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

THE QUESTION: WHO ARE THE MEMBERS OF WELCA?   Every confirmed woman in our church is automatically a member.

Lutheran World Relief  LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF SERVICE PROJECTS
MAKING HEALTH KITS:
Families who must flee their homes quickly often do not have time to pack essential items. A health kit helps children, women and men who are refugees maintain personal hygiene while living in exile. These items may also contribute to a new start for those who can return home.  Our goal is to complete 10 kits. Please buy any of these following items to be assembled into the kits:
· One hand towel (terrycloth kitchen towel would work)
· One wash cloth
· One bath size bar of soap in a wrapper
· One toothbrush
· One tube of 5 to 7 oz. toothpaste
· One wide tooth comb
· One metal nail clippers with file attached
· Six bandages, ½ “ to ¾ “
Please place your donations in the bottom drawer of the armoire in the Reception Area. Thank you for being Jesus’ hands and feet here on earth. Any questions, please call Mary Ann Eichler, WELCA Stewardship Secretary, at 444-4591.

COLLECTING BLANKETS, QUILTS AND SOAP:
Our Women of the ELCA are collecting blankets and quilts (new or gently used) and bars of soap in original wrapping for LWR which sends these items to people in our country and world where there is a disaster and urgent need.

Please place your donations in marked boxes in the Reception/Narthex Areas. The blankets/quilts provide people shelter, carry babies, hold personal belongings, serve as coats and provide a warmer place to sleep. The soap is necessary to maintain a level of cleanliness to reduce disease and infection, especially where people live in close quarters, like in refugee camps.

Thank you for being Jesus’ hands and feet here on earth by helping the poor and needy people through these projects. Any questions please call Mary Ann Eichler, WELCA Stewardship Secretary, at 444-4591.

THANK YOU FOR CARING AND SHARING!

THRIVENT BUILDS with Habitat for Humanity   house

Thrivent Builds Celebration-
The Christian Service Board is very excited to share the successes of our Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity campaign. Our Congregation donated $970 and WELCA donated $961.22 of their Spring Garage Sale proceeds also. So, collaboratively, Abiding Love Lutheran Church was able to support this outreach with a very generous donation of $1931.22. We thank you for your financial support. We also had 19 very dedicated Labor Volunteers show up on a very hot day at the construction site on Saturday, June 9, to paint, sand, do yard work, etc. which kept the Habitat House right on schedule for its completion by late June! The volunteers were Daniel Page, Bruce, Cindy, Erik & Carly Atwell; Alan, Betty & Brad Matejowsky; George Glaser, Paul & Dolly Atkinson, Tom & Rachel Hokanson; Willie & Jan Haas; Nader Ayoub, J.D. Bostick, Kim Sump and Pastor Fetter. Our construction workers were treated to wonderful homemade breakfast tacos prepared by Sergio Escobedo and his mother. Our OWLS Koinonia Group provided bottled water and the funds for the special breakfast! Finally, Hope Lutheran Church complemented the experience by providing 5 Labor Volunteers and a delicious lunch! The Christian Service Board would like to thank all of you who made our Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity a very successful outreach!  At this time, the Habitat House for Maria Villegas is moving along right on schedule. The last work day will be on Saturday, June 23. The dedication has been scheduled for July 7th. You can monitor the progress of this Build by visiting the Thrivent Builds website at
www.thriventbuilds@thrivent.com. What a wonderful display of Christian love. We ask that you keep this home and its volunteers in your thoughts and prayers throughout the remaining construction days! Celebrate a job well done!
